Biomimicry: Botanical dances that inspire science

At the l’X Hydrodynamics Laboratory, researchers are working to find answers to two questions asked by biologists: can we gain information on the condition of plants according to how they move, and can the movements of leaves be predicted in relation to wind speed? Mechanics researchers are interested in exploring living things to resolve mechanical problems. Biomimicry and bio-inspiration have thus become research themes of the Hydrodynamics Laboratory, and are now also taught to students at École Polytechnique.
