1937: Leprince-Ringuet founds the first laboratory at l’X

In 1936, École Polytechnique welcomes a new professor, Louis Leprince-Ringuet. A year later, the physicist establishes the institution’s first laboratory, dedicated to the study of cosmic rays. In the 1960s, research conducted at the laboratory becomes more steered towards particle physics. The laboratory is given the name of its founder in 2001.
