Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, Founder of L’Express newsmagazine (1924-2006, Year of Entry: 1943)

Shortly after graduating from École Polytechnique in 1948, Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber took up his pen to write journalistic articles and editorials for Le Monde. Then in 1953, he launched L’Express with Françoise Giroud, holding positions firstly as chief editor of the magazine, then as CEO of the group for nine years. But his career also saw a number of political successes. Servan-Schreiber was Secretary General of the Radical Socialist Party in 1969, before serving as its President from 1971 to 1979. In 1972, he co-founded the Reformist Movement along with Jean Lecanuet and became Minister for Reform two years later. He later assumed other positions of leadership, including President of the Regional Council of Lorraine and President of the World Center for Information Science and Human Resources. In 1980, he released his book The World Challenge, which went on to achieve great success.
