Moroccan politician M’hamed Douiri is a graduate of École Polytechnique and École des Mines. He was a nationalist activist under the French protectorate of Morocco (1912-1956) and one of the leading figures of the Istiqlal. This Moroccan political party was founded in 1944 with the main objective of gaining the country’s independence. During the reign of King Mohammed V (1957-1961), M’hamed Douiri was Minister of Public Works and then Minister of the National Economy and Finance. Under Hassan II (1961-1999), he became Minister of Economy and Finance once again, then Minister of Equipment and National Promotion. In 1960, Douiri co-founded the General Union of Moroccan Workers (UGTM), and also served several terms as President of the Fez-Boulemane Regional Council.
