L’X: a veritable pool of Nobel Prize winners

École Polytechnique came in at 6th place in Nature magazine’s 2016 ranking of the best institutions of higher education in the world according to number of Nobel Prize winners. So far, l’X has had three Nobel Prize winners among its alumni, Henri Becquerel (Physics, 1903), Maurice Allais (Economics, 1988) and Jean Tirole (Economics, 2014). In 2018, Gérard Mourou, professor and member of the Haut-collège of École Polytechnique, received the Nobel Prize in Physics, which was awarded jointly with Donna Strickland and Arthur Ashkin.
