Why is "X" the symbol of École Polytechnique? You will find the answer in this exhibition dedicated to how and why the field of mathematics became the key discipline taught at the institution during the 19th century. École Polytechnique’s nickname, "l’X", refers to the unknown in algebra. It illustrates the pioneering role that the school played in inventing modern methods for teaching science.
