Students and PhD researchers at École Polytechnique are innovating in the agricultural sector and simplifying the work of farmers. The start-up Farmwise has created an autonomous robot that increases agricultural productivity and makes agricultural production more economically and ecologically responsible, by eliminating the use of pesticides. Its two founders, l’X graduate Sébastien Boyer and his associate Thomas Palomares, were named in the 2019 edition of Forbes’s 30 Under 30. Fruition Sciences, a company founded in 2008 by Sébastien Payen (Year of Entry: 1998) and Thibaut Scholasch, has set up an online platform that cross-references all available data from a vineyard to optimize grape production. The start-up, SmartOeno, develops a process that allows a wine to be characterized without the need to open the bottle or sample it, for purposes of authentication or quality control.
